Outdoor Management Training Programs

Our programmes are conducted in sites ranging from rural settings to forested areas. Sites chosen vary, depending on the course design, season, time and travel conveniences available. Some very remote and spectacular wilderness areas provide the backdrop for our programmes. From Mountains to Rivers, we offer courses year round in differing terrain's and climatic conditions. The wilderness is both your classroom and your subject. You may learn the skills necessary to make your way through unfamiliar landscapes, down swift rivers or across open waters. You will learn how to get along in the outdoors, how to take what you need from the environment without leaving your mark on it.

Unlike typical adventure travel programmes, our programs are not catered vacations. We emphasize on self-discovery and personal growth through challenging adventures. You carry your own pack and share in group responsibilities- cooking setting up and maintaining your campsite, and more.

Outdoor Management Training Programs

Himachal Pradesh Special PackagesContemporary professional development programmes go far beyond specific content and even empowerment to personal involvement, cooperation, leadership and team building. One approach to such transformational training is through Outdoor Adventure. Out bound programmes are based on the philosophy that ones outer actions and behaviours are a reflection of inner patterns of choice making. The way people behave when confronted with real obstacles in life is mirrored in their reactions to the many challenges on the course. Consequently, each element of the course becomes a metaphor for life's events. The process assumes that learning and understanding take place when people engage in and reflect upon experiences in challenging environments in which they must make choices, take responsible action, acquire new skills and work with others.

Discussions following each exercise help anchor the experience and draw parallels to the work place. This weaving together of outer challenges and inner explorations builds a tapestry of experiences that the person can reflect upon. This tapestry will mirror the person's inner processes and provide him or her with a personal agenda to work upon for enhancing his or her ability to face challenges in life and at the work place. Placing a person in a primitive environment, where challenges are more elemental, wakes up something within the person including. Fears of the unknown, excitement in the face of adventure, self centeredness & group commitment, ability to stretch & tendencies to give up, endurance and lack of will, inadequacies and capabilities, dependency & initiative, and many other characteristics which are experienced in the stark context of the challenging outdoors

Participants move in small task groups through a series of outdoor training activities offering a variety of challenges requiring creative and cooperative solutions. Various high adventure initiatives, allowing participants to experiment with risk taking, while safely belayed by trained staff, promote self-confidence, personal insight and accountability. Participants examine self-imposed limitations and learn to expand their areas of comfort, to exceed expected levels of physical & mental achievement and to rely on others to accomplish goals. Trust, shared responsibility, mutual support and positive leadership are all promoted.

The group is encouraged to assume responsibility for its own welfare, trading leadership roles and learning to consider everyone's input in decision making. Above all, they learn to support each other in moments of doubt and to celebrate each other's triumphs. This is a period of hard work, long days and endless activity & chores. By taking responsibility for such tasks as resource handling or direction finding, the group begins to experience that leadership is more a matter of your personal initiative and example than some persuasive power over others.

Why use adventure?

Adventure has been recognised by many as an excellent way of enabling people to learn about themselves and others, but what is this based on?
Adventure is defined as an experience with elements of uncertainty -where outcomes are unknown. It is also a state of mind. There is an essential human need for challenge, and adventure is a powerful stimulant for this. ADVENTUREHILLS believes that this need must be channelled in a positive way, especially for young people.

Himachal Pradesh Special PackagesThere is no need for objective risk. We do not believe there is much value to be gained by placing pupils in positions of extreme hardship or physical danger. The challenge of living and working with a new environment or novel situation is more suited to learning than having to survive. Our courses create adventure through the use of exciting outdoor activities and imaginative task work designed to challenge individuals and make them deal with the risks involved.

A key theme lies in the notion of journeying out, either into a new landscape or leaving restrictive mindsets to discover new perspectives about self and others. Often the physical journey inspires the mental and spiritual one. Confronting the dissonance between staying safe and accepting challenge enables people to learn more about themselves and how they interact with others. By the very nature of our programme there will always be an element of risk. It is our prerogative to minimise the objective risks, whilst at the same time helping students deal with the inherent challenges and opportunities that face them.

Within the remit of safety, students are encouraged to be responsible for decision- making, and more importantly, to accept the consequences of those decisions. Through adventure, students can overcome believed limitations of mind, body and spirit, and see in themselves the potential for making fundamental changes in their lives. They learn to set goals, associate effort with rewards and feel personally empowered.

The stimulus that facing adventure provides increases receptivity to learning. A lack of stimulus and the activities become tame or boring; too much and the lack of control opens the door to greater objective danger.

Frontier adventure is that moment when we feel a sense of "buzz"; that we are living on the edge and yet we still have control of ourselves.

Say goodbye to all home comforts and get ready to toughen up as you join a group with survival in mind! Led by Professionals from Mountaineering and Forest, discover what is edible and what’s not, cook on self-made open fires, grasp mountain navigation. Acquire a whole host of essential survival skills, whilst making your way across the beautiful mountain terrain..

Orienteering .Map skills, navigation, prcpbfem-solving and an element of exercise- no wonder this is a popular activity to meet curriculum requirements. Very accessible and highly adaptable to ski" level, orienteeripg is always a winner.

Life saving and first aid. All of our activities have an element of education about safety awareness and the risks involved. With young people becoming more and more independent this special activity shows them how to cope with emergencies and life threatening situations.

Hill and mountain walking. Experience the achievement of standing on top of your world. A chance to put map work to the test and share a day away from life's distractions.

Team tasks. These exercise focus on attitude rather than skills or knowledge as such they are suitable for any age group -senior teachers down to junior years. These exercises are transferable to any location and are especially suited to in-school programs.

ADVENTUREHILLS generally avoid using activities that require a high level of personal skill or competition allowing all students to participate fully and share success. At the same time we believe i real adventure. We avoid the use of artificial experiences (for example man made climbing walls) and opt for venues that enable pupils to experience the profound impact, beauty and opportunities of nature

Transfer of learning

ADVENTUREHILLS takes key learning points, makes them personal to each individual and shows them how to push their own standards of thinking and learning.

This is singularly the most important aspect of any ADVENTUREHILLS programme. It is crucial that whatever activities are engaged in there must be relevance to the pupils' own world of personal and social development. Without the ability to transfer the intrinsic learning of each progrmme the content is little more than directed playing.

Many organisations present outdoor activities, problem-solving and teamwork exercise to students with little phasis on making changes to personal habits, beliefs or abilities. ADVENTUREHILS believes that the activities they ask students to participate in illustrate lessons that apply in other situations throughout their lives and as such they deserve significant attention. Effective reviewing during and after an ADVENTUREHILLS course is crucial to its success. Improved transference of learning can be achieved by relating key learning points to projects that students already have or intend to start. Students are not expected to go away and 'change the world but they are helped to understand the first steps. In addition to this is the application of strategies that will smooth the processes involved in managing change -how to deal with arguments, putting forward ideas, being heard -the list is extensive.

The creation of action plans on some programs enable children to set themselves challenging yet attainable goals promotes self motivation and conceives a personal record of achievement that will have far more meaning than standards imposed by external authorities.

ADVENTUREHILLS courses have numerous significant links to the National Curriculum at all levels whether it is through Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Personal, Social and Health Ed cation or Citizenship.

Outdoor Management Training -Frequently Asked Questions -Faqs

How can my company use the outdoors for management training?
The outdoor is the ideal forum for working groups to develop teamwork, leadership, problem solving and risk taking skills essential to an organisation's success. Training can take many different approaches and may be tailored to meet a variety of goals. Each, along with a Human Resource professional will custom design a programme to address your specific organisational requirements.

What can our employees learn about themselves?
Programmes such as these are as much a mental progression as it is a physical challenge. Your employees are almost certain to leave with something more than you bargained for -a heightened sense of the self, courage to overcome reluctance, capacity for perseverance, potential for making fundamental changes in their life. This programme can give your employees a new perception of themselves. We believe that without the vision to see possibilities beyond our everyday existence and the certainty that we can realize them, we simply drift through life without real direction or motivation.

What can our employees learn about themselves in relation to each other?
There may be times during these programmes when your employees could wish they were somewhere else. Blisters. Weariness. Or just an attitude. At such times they will learn the real meaning of patience, cooperation and compassion. For their team to be successful, every team member has to reach the goal. Choosing to put the welfare of others before their own is a sign of real emotional growth. We believe that the generosity and concern of a single person can change the world for the better.

What kind of group's sizes do we plan for?
Groups with between 10-20 participants are the norm.

Who qualifies to participate?
Out bound programmes are open to any individual in reasonably good physical condition. No prior camping experience or exceptional physical fitness is required. The programme is designed for the average person in reasonable health. The programme is not recommended for those suffering from cardiac problems, chronic respiratory ailments, expectant mothers and those who have undergone major surgeries or fractures in the recent past.

Do we need to be in great shapes to take a course?
Out bound courses are meant to be physically & mentally challenging, but one does not have to be an athlete or have prior experience to participate. If your employees are not already doing so, we would advice them to begin an aerobic (running, walking) exercise programme to help build their stamina before they come.
